Hester vs. Ferreira added to UFC 163 in Brazil, Magalhaes vs. Perosh official

cezar-ferreira-2.jpgA middleweight matchup between “The Ultimate Fighter 17? contestant Clint Hester (8-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil” winner Cezar Ferreira (5-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is official for UFC 163.

UFC officials recently announced the matchup.

Additionally, a previously reported light-heavyweight contest of Vinny Magalhaes (10-6 MMA, 1-3 UFC) and Anthony Perosh (13-7 MMA, 3-2 UFC) was also made official for the card.

Featuring a featherweight title fight between current champ Jose Aldo and challenger Anthony Pettis, UFC 163 takes place Aug. 3 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Hester was Jon Jones‘ first pick on “TUF 17,” though he was ousted in the opening round of the tournament when he was submitted by Jimmy Quinlan. Still, he was given a slot on the finale card, and he made the most of the opportunity by scoring a knockout win over Bristol Marunde. Hester now boasts an official four-fight win streak.

Ferriera claimed the “TUF: Brazil” tournament title with a convincing win over Sergio Moraes at this past June’s UFC 147 event. He was expected to return to action at May’s UFC on FX 8 event but was forced to withdraw due to injury. He’ll now face a 14-month layoff between fights.

Magalhaes, who fights in his home country, was a runner-up on “The Ultimate Fighter 8? who lost his first two UFC fights, but he eventually fought his way back to the organization. At UFC 152, the 28-year-old submitted Igor Pokrajac for his sixth straight win. However, in his most recent outing, the former M-1 champ and Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist suffered a decision loss to wrestling standout Phil Davis at UFC 159.

He looks to get back on track against Perosh, a 41-year-old who had won three straight UFC fights in 2011 and 2012. However, he returned from a 16-month injury layoff this past July and suffered a seven-second knockout loss to Ryan Jimmo. The Australian has been nursing a toe injury since then and now fights for the first time in 2013.
