Last year on the London card, Paul Craig's( 16- 5- 1) streak finally came to an end. Gadzhimurad Antigulov, TKO Shogun Rua, and Jamahal Hall, who headlines this card, as well as a vintage submission over Nikita Krylov( 2022), who caught him in his seventh triangle choke, were all big wins for him. He had never lost before. Volkan Oezdemir, who had fought his way out of the grappling initiations to win a classy unanimous decision, was the next person he encountered.
Johnny Walker( 19-7) decided to follow Craig's lead and won his first submission in the UFC back in September. Ion Cutelaba received a "Performance of the Night" bonus after losing four of his last five games to Corey Anderson( 2019), Krylov( 2020), Thiago Santos( 2021), and Hill( 2022), which earned him the award.
Walker submitted Cutelaba by demonstrating a new string to his bow, but he will make every effort to avoid hitting the mat in this situation. Their strategy will be clear: Craig will drag the fight to the ground while Walker will light him up from a distance.
You must believe that Craig would be smoked by 2018 Walker. He no longer has the assurance to move around, to be loose, and to deliver effortless knockout blows using all eight of his limbs. Since then, he has lost four times and hasn't looked the same.
His most recent victory, though, will give him all the assurance. He is aware that in the world of striking, he is a different league. Craig can catch him off guard and sneak it a few hits while Walker waits for the takedown if he is hesitant to throw.
Craig submissions are always possible, and we can see Walker tumbling into a triangle if he has another bad night. Having said that, we have a feeling Walker will emerge and use his explosiveness to defy and repel attempts while utilizing his six-inch reach advantage to ultimately deliver the fatal blow.
Craig is the value pick with a game of unforgiving submissions and underrated striking.
