Video: Jared Rosholt says Harris’ first-round haymaker didn’t have him in serious trouble

LAS VEGAS – When Walt Harris landed a thunderous haymaker in the opening round of his bout with Jared Rosholt, it looked like the fight was going to end early. But after bouncing back for a decision win, Rosholt insists the blow really never had him in trouble.

“It was one of those quick, like, in-and-out real quick,” Rosholt said. “Like you just had like a flash, but it was a real quick flash. It wasn’t like, ‘Oh, I’m dazed and I’m trying to find myself.’ It was like, ‘Boom’ – then right back to right where I was.

“I was like, ‘OK, keep your hands up.’ Watch what’s coming, you know? That was it.”

Rosholt (9-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and Harris (4-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) met on the preliminary card of Saturday’s The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale event, which took place at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center.

After Rosholt dropped the opening round, he rallied over the final 10 minutes, edging out Harris in the second before taking complete control of the action in the final round with a dominant wrestling attack. While it might not have been as flashy as Harris’ near miss, the blue-collar effort earned Rosholt a win in his UFC debut.

“It just felt good to get that one out of the way, and now it’s no surprises,” Rosholt said. “That was a great opponent for my first go-round.”
