Mateusz Gamrot and Jalin Turner will face off on Saturday's UFC 285 pay-per-view main card in a late-advanced clash of the top 10 lightweights.

No. Turner was supposed to take on Dan Hooker at first, but No. Recently, 7-ranked Gamrot took over as a stand-in for the hurt Hooker.

In this featured UFC 285 fight, which title contender has the advantage?

This intriguing pairing of two lightweights with radically dissimilar body types and styles is intriguing. It would be disrespectful to both men to refer to this as "grappler vs. striker," but depending on where this fight takes place, each has a distinct advantage.

Gamrot is a professional wrestler with extensive experience competing in the ADCC. He makes good submissions, but his wrestling matches are where he really shines.

His 31% takedown accuracy belies his true talent, as he frequently chains-wrestles before finally dragging his opponent to the mat.

He has achieved a takedown in each round of UFC competition, aside from his fight with Arman Tsarukyan. That includes his altercation with Beneil Dariush, a skilled grappler on his own.

Gamrot's striking is consistent but unremarkable. He is a plus-athlete, has quick hands, and possesses reasonable power. However, Dariush prevailed in the striking matches against him, including a third-round knockdown that guaranteed Benny's victory.

That identifies some of his game's defensive weaknesses. He tries to close the range to set up his wrestling but is caught because he is on the smaller side for the division. That might be a problem with the enormous Turner.

His reliance on the "tree top" finish from his single-leg entries is another potential flaw. He'll struggle to raise the 6'3 "Turner's leg high enough to make those into a takedown. Having said that, he has a lot of other options for getting Turner to the mat.

Turner is a promising young player in the division of lightweights. He began his UFC career with a rocky 2– 2 finish, but has since won five straight matches, all in the first two rounds. Even his losses could be partially excused, especially given that he was forced to fight Vicente Luque at welterweight.

Turner's best quality is his striking, which he skillfully employs to distinguish himself from his rivals. With a rare blend of volume and power, he strikes with vigor.

He's also not a slouch when it comes to grappling. He rarely starts fights, but he frequently finds himself winning them. Gamrot will probably win the positional battles, but he will opportunistically look for opportunities to submit when they arise.

Turner could at least threaten Gamrot with them enough to create openings even though they have never been submitted in MMA. Even in the grappling section, his length presents a significant obstacle to overcome. Turner can threaten from places where Gamrot might feel more at ease than he should thanks to his long limbs.

Turner has above-average takedown defense, but he hasn't yet engaged in combat with a grappler of Gamrot's caliber. In the past, when he has been caught, it's usually because of rushing in with strikes and leaving gaps( his fight with Jamie Mullarkey is a prime example) rather than being outwitted.
