Welterweight prospect Ryan "Cowboy" Karl (18-2, 12 KOs) of Texas got dropped in the first round before fighting his way to a stoppage victory over Costa Rica's Berman Aguilar (15-6-1, 5 KOs) at the 3:00 mark of round five. Aguilar was unable to answer the bell to start round six due to an injured hand.
"A victory is a victory," said Karl. "We'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day. We came here to do our job, and while this might not have been my best performance we take a 'W' away from it."
