BattleGrounds MMA’s upcoming single-night tournament is on hold until October, but there is a silver lining.
BattleGrounds MMA: “One Night Elimination (O.N.E.)” was set for June 27 at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. But that date now will shift to Oct. 3 at the same location so the promotion can host the event on pay-per-view.
BattleGrounds MMA, led by renowned MMA wrestling coach and Olympic gold medalist Kenny Monday, made the announcement on Tuesday. The event is highlighted by a single-night eight-man welterweight tournament.
“This is a tremendous step forward for our two-year_old company that will allow us to bring BattleGrounds MMA’s world-class competitive platform to a live, national audience for the first time,” Monday stated. “We truly appreciate all the support and enthusiasm that the fans and our fighters have shown us. On Oct. 3, we are going to show our gratitude by giving MMA fans throughout the U.S. the opportunity to take in all the action live from their homes.”
The event will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET on Oct. 3 through cable and satellite providers. The promotion said a price point for the event will be announced soon. Tickets already purchased for the event at BOK Center will be honored on the new date.
The welterweight tournament features Brock Larson (37-8); Cody McKenzie (15-4); Dennis Hallman (53-14-2); Luigi Fioravanti (24-11); David Mitchell (13-4); Chris Honeycutt (4-0); Roan Carneiro (16-9); and Trey Houston (11-2). All but Honeycutt and Houston are UFC veterans, though Houston is a Bellator and Strikeforce vet.
Opening-round matchups for the tourney will be randomly drawn at the show’s official weigh-ins.
