UFC Show Set for Nottingham, England

The UFC will make its return to the United Kingdom on Sept. 29 with a show slated for Nottingham, England at the Capital FM Arena, which holds upwards of 10,000 spectators.

Fighters Only Magazine first announced the show with UFC president Dana White confirming the news on Episode 12 of The Ultimate Fighter Live. White granted Andy Ogle’s request to fight on the Sept. 29 card after not being cleared to fight on the TUF Finale show following a concussion in his quarterfinal loss to Al Iaquinta.

At the UFC 146 post fight press conference, White hinted that Paul Sass and Dan Hardy, who both picked up huge wins on the preliminary card, could make an appearance in Nottingham.

Sass, who is undefeated in his career, picked up his career best win at UFC 146 when he submitted Jacob, Volkmann who came into the fight having won his last five UFC fights.

“Beating a guy like Volkmann the way he did was an impressive performance,” White said on Sass. “Tonight was his coming out party.”

UFC 146 also marked the resurgence for Dan “Outlaw” Hardy. The 30-year-old came into his match-up with Ludwig having lost his last four fights and with his UFC career on the line, the Nottingham based fighter had taken nine months off to work on the weak parts of his game. It paid off with him stopping Ludwig in round one.

A light heavyweight clash, which was originally due to take place at UFC Sweden between Jurgen Kruth and Cyrille Diabate, was revealed for the Nottingham show by Swedish media outlet Expressen.se. Kruth was forced out of the fight in Sweden with an injury and UFC newcomer Tom DeBlass took his place on the card.

Other shortlisted UK fighters that could be fighting on the card include rising bantamweight Brad Pickett and John Maguire, who both fought at UFC on Fuel TV 2 in Sweden.

The show will be the first in England since UFC 138 in November of 2011, where Mark Munoz won by corner stoppage over Chris Leben in Birmingham. The show is expected to be either an FX or Fuel TV Fight Night.
