Cage Warriors 60 weigh-in results: Lightweight tourney fighters hit marks

cage-warriors-lightweight-tourney.jpgThe fighters involved in Saturday’s Cage Warriors lightweight tournament all hit their marks and are official for their bouts.

But six fighters, including co-main event welterweight Bola Omoyele, missed weight on their first attempts Friday and were given two hours to cut down to become official for Cage Warriors 60.

Cage Warriors 60 takes place at The Forum in London. The main card, which includes a single-night lightweight tourney final, streams live in North America on MMAjunkie.com following Facebook prelims, which feature the opening round/semifinals. The main-card stream kicks off at 4 p.m. ET (1 p.m. PT).

The lightweight tournament final will serve as the main event, with the winners between Jason Ball vs. Stevie Ray and Ivan Buchinger vs. Mick Sinclair meeting at the night’s conclusion. All four made weight, as did Sean Carter and Richard Griffin, who fight on the untelevised prelims in a reserve bout in case one of the winning semifinalists is not cleared for the finals.

Cage Warriors’ lightweight title is up for grabs since former champion Conor McGregor left the promotion to sign with the UFC, vacating both the 155-pound and featherweight titles.

The co-main event is a welterweight bout between Omoyele and UFC veteran Aaron Wilkinson. Wilkinson was on target, but Omoyele, looking to stay unbeaten, was 171.7 pounds and was given two hours to cut to the 171-pound non-title maximum. He made 169.7 pounds on his second attempt, skipping right past 171 and even 170.

In addition, women’s bantamweight Hannah Stephens came in overweight, as did bantamweights Aaron Blackwell and Kris Edwards, who fight each other, and bantamweight Paddy Pimblett. All were given two hours to meet 136 pounds at most. Edwards returned and made 136 pounds on his second try, as did Pimblett. But Blackwell could not shed enough additional weight, and will forfeit 25 percent of his purse to Edwards. Stephens was only able to cut an additional 0.7 pounds and forfeits 40 percent of her purse to Amanda Kelly. And flyweight Spencer Hewitt missed the 126-pound max on his first try, coming in at 126.4 pounds. But he hit 126 on his second attempt.
