BARUERI, Sao Paulo, Brazil – MMAjunkie.com was on scene for today’s official fighter weigh-ins for UFC Fight Night 29, where all but one fighter successfully made weight for Wednesday’s card.

In the main event, former Strikeforce welterweight champion Jake Shields (28-6-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) travels to hostile territory in Brazil to meet home favorite Demian Maia (18-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC), who is unbeaten since dropping form middleweight to 170 pounds.

Both fighters hit their marks at 171 pounds for the fight, which is one of the more intriguing grappler-vs.-grappler contests the UFC has put together this year.

The co-main event also features welterweights as Brazil’s Erick Silva (15-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) takes on Dong Hyun Kim (17-2-1 MMA, 8-2 UFC). Silva was 170 pounds, while Kim was 171. Silva is more than a 2-to-1 favorite in the fight.

Only Brazilian Thiago Silva failed to make weight. He weighed in at 208 pounds for his light heavyweight bout against Matt Hamill, part of the main card. After trying to cut for 45 minutes of his allotted one hour of additional time, SIlva decided to not weigh in again and instead forfeits 25 percent of his show money to Hamill.

All the other fighters on the card hit their target weights without issue for Wednesday’s show, which is the sixth UFC event in Brazil this year.

Friday’s weigh-ins took place at Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil, the same venue that hosts Wednesday’s card. UFC Fight Night 29 has a six-fight main card on FOX Sports 1 (7 p.m. ET) following four prelims on the same channel (5 p.m. ET).
