The highly anticipated main event of UFC 333 delivered as former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski took on undefeated contender Movsar Evloev in what proved to be a crucial matchup in the 145-pound division. The October 2026 showdown featured two of the most technically sound fighters in the sport, each bringing their own distinct style to the octagon.

A Clash of Elite Featherweights

Alexander Volkanovski entered UFC 333 with his legacy as one of the greatest featherweights in UFC history already cemented. Known for his exceptional fight IQ, relentless pace, and ability to adapt mid-fight, the Australian fighter looked to prove he still belongs at the top of the division. His world-class striking, underrated grappling, and legendary cardio have made him a formidable opponent for anyone in the weight class.

Opposite him stood Movsar Evloev, the undefeated Russian contender who had been steadily climbing the featherweight ranks. Evloev brought an impressive wrestling pedigree and suffocating top control that had frustrated numerous opponents throughout his career. His ability to neutralize strikers and control the pace of fights made him a legitimate threat to any fighter in the division.

Styles and Strategies

The matchup presented a fascinating stylistic battle. Volkanovski's ability to defend takedowns and maintain offensive output from any position would be tested against Evloev's relentless pressure and grappling acumen. The former champion's experience in championship rounds and high-pressure situations gave him a potential edge in the later stages of the fight.

What Was at Stake

For Volkanovski, this fight represented an opportunity to reestablish himself as the top contender or reclaim his position at the pinnacle of the featherweight division. A victory would remind everyone why he dominated the weight class for years and potentially set up another title shot.

For Evloev, defeating a legend like Volkanovski would serve as the signature win his resume needed. An undefeated record is impressive, but a victory over a former pound-for-pound king would catapult him into immediate title contention and validate his status as an elite featherweight.
