After being handed his first loss, Jamal "Shango" James took on Jo Jo Dan on July 15, 2017 on PBC on FS1in search of redemption. Dan, is no stranger to tough competition, did all he could to keep James at bay.
James' reach was an asset in this fight and he made sure to use it at every opportunity available. His jab kept Dan at distance, keeping him coming forward and brawling with him inside. His reach also helped him set up combinations, starting from the jab and ending with power punches. Despite the punishment that James tried to deliver to Dan, Dan pressed on.
The early rounds went James' way, but Dan invested into the body in those rounds, and that would pay dividends as the fight progressed. The early punishment to the body lead Dan to keep his guard low, giving Dan opportunities to tag James with power punches. This came to a head in the 6th round where James was noticeably hurt.
