Without Georges St-Pierre on Tap, Michael Bisping Challenges Nick Diaz | MMAWeekly.com

It’s become abundantly clear that Georges St-Pierre will not be fighting on the UFC 206 fight card on Dec. 10 in Toronto. As much as he wanted to return in his home country, it’s been consistently shot down by UFC president Dana White, and now, also by St-Pierre.

Aside from disappointed fans, UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is also upset over the lack of a deal to bring the former welterweight champion back into the fold.

Bisping wanted to be the one to welcome St-Pierre back to the Octagon, and he wanted to do it in Toronto. But with that opportunity falling to the floor, Bisping has now set his sights on another “big money fight.”

“If it’s not GSP, I don’t mind being on the (UFC 206) card against somebody else, and Nick Diaz would be somebody else that moves the needle,” Bisping said recently on his SiriusXM show. “I’m going to open myself to criticism saying that, but there’s been talk of us having a fight before. His last fight was against Anderson Silva, so he’s fought at 185 (pounds), and if Nick Diaz wants to do it, I’ll fight Nick Diaz.”

Bisping - Georges St-Pierre and Nick DiazAfter avenging his UFC 100 loss to Dan Henderson in his first middleweight title defense at UFC 204 in early October, Bisping would have been pleased to sit on the sidelines and enjoy the holidays with his family. After all, the top 185-pound contenders are battling each other over the next couple months  for a chance to get a crack at the belt.

But when talks to fight St-Pierre began, it lit a fire under Bisping to get back in the Octagon soon. Even with St-Pierre now out of the picture, Bisping’s desire to fight hasn’t faded.

“If anybody wants to do it, as long as it’s not some new pup that just signed with the UFC, I’m down to fight anyone,” Bisping said. “I’ll say it again, and I’m not trying to be a tough-ass, I’ll fight anybody as long as it makes sense business-wise. I’m not going to risk my reputation and my title against some chump, but if there’s money on the line, then I’ll do it. And if Nick Diaz wants to go at UFC 206, formally, officially, I invite you to sign the bout agreement.”
