Wilson Reis replaces Johnny Bedford, meets Hugo Viana at UFC Fight Night 28

Promotional newcomer Wilson Reis (16-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC) reportedly has replaced injured Johnny Bedford (19-10 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and meets fellow bantamweight Hugo Viana (7-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 28.

MMAFighting.com first reported the change. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed Reis had been offered a UFC deal but couldn’t verify the actual matchup.

UFC Fight Night 28 takes place Sept. 4 at Mineirinho Arena in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The evening’s main card airs on FOX Sports 1 following prelims on Facebook.

Reis vs. Viana is slated for the prelims.

Bedford recently was forced off the card with a shoulder injury.

Reis, a decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, is a former EliteXC champion and four-time Bellator tournament competitor. Recently, the 28-year-old has been on the regional circuit, where he’s racked up four wins, three via submission. Most recently, he forced Owen Roddy to tap out from a rear-naked choke at Cage Warriors 50 this past December.

“Wolverine” Viana, part of the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil,” was stopped by T.J. Dillashaw with a first-round TKO at UFC on FOX 7 in April for the first loss of his professional career. His first two official UFC fights were wins, over John Teixeira at UFC 147 and Reuben Duran at the TUF 16 Finale.
