After the second round of his UFC Fight Night 102 fight with Tiago Trator, Shane Burgos did something never before seen in the octagon: he asked his corner to cut off his hair.
Burgos (8-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) took the fight on two weeks’ notice, but still managed to handily beat Trator (20-6-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) on the scorecards. The final scores were 30-26, 29-28 and 29-27 for Burgos, who remains unbeaten in eight professional fights.
Following his victory, Burgos explained the decision to have his corner make him one ponytail lighter.
“I told my corner that if the fight goes past the first round and my hair is getting in my face to cut (my ponytail) off,” Burgos said. “It wasn’t getting in my face the first round, but it started to in the second, so I told them to cut it off. It was pretty memorable, but it was planned beforehand. That was the first octagon haircut, right? I think that’s worth a bonus, Fight of the Night maybe?”
