The weigh-ins for Saturday’s WSOF 11 event are in the books, and one prominent main-card fighter was off the mark.
In the main event, Justin Gaethje puts his lightweight title on the line against the undefeated Nick Newell. Newell, the challenger, weighed in first and was 155 pounds on the button. Gaethje was 154.8.
Making a high-profile WSOF debut after years with the UFC, Melvin Guillard was 159.4 pounds on his first attempt for his lightweight fight against former teammate Gesias Cavalcante, who was 155.6. Guillard was given two hours to cut to the lightweight non-title maximum of 156 pounds.
In the co-main event, former UFC welterweight title challenger Jon Fitch moves up to middleweight to meet another UFC veteran in Dennis Hallman, who makes his debut for WSOF. Both fighters were well under the limit, with Fitch coming in at 183 pounds, and Hallman 181.2.
WSOF 11 takes place at Ocean Center in Daytona, Fla. The main card is the promotion’s debut on NBC and airs live at 4 p.m. ET following prelims on MMAjunkie at 2 p.m. ET.
