Video: UFC gets traditional Maori 'Haka' welcome in New Zealand

For other cities or countries hoping the UFC pays them a first visit, they’re now on notice: The welcome wagon bar has been set pretty high.

The UFC was given a traditional “Haka” welcome by the Maori, an indigenous warrior people in New Zealand, when it touched down in Auckland this week for UFC Fight Night 43.

In the video above, check out part of the Maori’s welcome to the UFC. Below, hear New Zealand native and event headliner James Te Huna talk about what seeing the ceremony meant to him. And hear from co-main event heavyweights Soa Palelei and Jared Rosholt, as well.

UFC Fight Night 43 takes place Saturday at Vector Arena in Auckland. The entire card streams on UFC Fight Pass.
