Video: Luke Rockhold, Urijah Faber: Conor McGregor has talent, but …

It seems like everyone in MMA has an opinion about Conor McGregor these days.

A pair of UFC standouts recently got a closeup look at what “The Notorious” one is all about. And while both recognized the brash Irishman’s talent in the cage, it’s his manner outside the cage that seems to have most of his critics worked up.

Urijah Faber just wrapped a coaching stint opposite McGregor for Season 22 of “The Ultimate Fighter.” And upcoming middleweight title challenger Luke Rockhold shared a stage with McGregor and other upcoming UFC event headliners at the “Go Big” news conference this past Friday in Las Vegas.

At a recent media luncheon with Faber and Rockhold, McGregor’s name came up – naturally. And while Faber said McGregor has “a good mind for the sport” and “a good philosophy,” he took umbrage with his level of attendance with his team of European fighters at “TUF 22.”

Rockhold, however, didn’t mince many words.

“The guys’ a good fighter, a good talker,” Rockhold said. “There can only be so many of those guys in the sport. Not everybody can be Conor McGregor, otherwise it’d be a complete sh-t show. We’d lose our credibility.”

But that was about as complimentary as Rockhold could be for McGregor.

“He’s starting to believe his own hype, and he thinks he’s way bigger than the sport now, which is kind of annoying,” he said. “We’ll see how it all pans out in the future for the guy. But usually, guys who rise that fast fall even harder. We’ll see if he can keep his crown – and I wouldn’t even say his crown. His title is the No. 1 contender. The guy’s not a champion. He just needs to calm down a little bit. He could win the belt – I’m not saying he can’t. But he’s strutting around backstage (at the ‘Go Big’ press conference) like his d-ck’s 10 feet long, and the belt around his head, and his chest puffed out. It’s like, cool the f-ck down.”

McGregor (18-2 MMA, 6-0 UFC) won the interim featherweight title against Faber’s teammate Chad Mendes in July at UFC 189. He is scheduled to fight champion Jose Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) to unify the belts in the UFC 194 main event Dec. 12 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas in what is expected to be one of the UFC’s biggest pay-per-view events of all time.

Rockhold (14-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) fights in the UFC 194 co-main event, challenging 185-pound champion Chris Weidman (13-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) for the title. On the same card, Faber (32-8 MMA, 8-4 UFC) returns to bantamweight after a run at featherweight to meet Frankie Saenz (11-2 MMA, 3-0 UFC).
