Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Omigawa
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Omigawa
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Gamburyan
Round 2
The featherweights exchange right hands early in round two, and
Omigawa follows up with another compact left hook. It’s Gamburyan
on the outside now, with Omigawa walking out from the middle.
Gamburyan shoots for another very low single-leg and Omigawa stands
him up again, this time framing up a choke. Omigawa lets the choke
go and Gamburyan works on the leg for a minute, finally dragging
Omigawa down along the fence. Omigawa stands up immediately;
Gamburyan slams him back down, and Omigawa stands again. Another
slam midway through the round puts Omigawa on the mat away from the
fence, and Gamburyan attaches himself to the Japanese fighter’s
back without hesitation. Gamburyan loses a hook as he works for a
rear-naked choke, and Omigawa is able to put his back on the ground
before working back to his feet with the help of the cage. They
disengage while swinging and Gamburyan comes away pawing at his
right eye. A jab from Gamburyan is the only real offense in the
last 30 seconds of the round.
Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Gamburyan
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Gamburyan
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Gamburyan
Round 3
Omigawa comes out swinging, backing up Gamburyan at first, but a
right high kick from Gamburyan changes the momentum with one swing.
Gamburyan tries to chase Omigawa with punches, but Omigawa stays
alive, though he’s visibly dazed. Another head kick connects, but
40 seconds into the round, Omigawa seems to have cleared the
cobwebs. Perhaps sensing that Gamburyan expended too much energy
with the assault, Omigawa walks right into the pocket, swatting at
Gamburyan’s head with short punching combinations. Gamburyan lands
a hard left on the chin, but Omigawa just stands in front of him
and continues peppering with punches. Gamburyan drops levels for a
double-leg, can’t get it at first but finishes on the second
effort. Omigawa hops back up instantly and tries to roll Gamburyan
with an arm-in guillotine. The choke is loose and Gamburyan pops
his head out, then slams Omigawa back down when he scrambles up.
Omigawa gets up again and Gamburyan hits another slam with a minute
to go. Omigawa gets back up and tries a guillotine on the kneeling
Gamburyan, but it’s not there.

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 De Fries
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-10
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 De Fries
Round 2
De Fries comes forward with punches, not clinching this time, and
pops his man as Thompson tries to step in with a knee. A few
seconds later, a straight right hand sends Thompson to the canvas
and De Fries pounces to attempt a finish. Thompson turtles up and
recovers, scrambling back to his feet, where he’s pushed into the
cage again. De Fries does a little work inside before stepping out,
punching Thompson again and landing a knee. They clinch up and
Thompson trips to the ground as he tries to exit. De Fries gets on
Thompson’s back but can’t sink his hooks, instead opting to soften
Thompson up with punches. Finally, De Fries puts his hooks in, and
seconds later, he coaxes a tap with a rear-naked choke. This one
comes to an end at 4:16 of the second round.
Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Phan
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Phan
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Phan
Round 2
Miller looks to give Phan a taste of his own medicine early in the
second round, as he swings hard punches to the body and leg kicks.
Phan’s combination punching is still looking stronger, however, as
the smaller man repeatedly attacks Miller’s breadbasket and sticks
hard right hands on his face. They trade stiff lefts on two
occasions in the middle of the round, then Miller backs Phan off
with a front kick and a pair of jabs. Phan lands his go-to left
hook to the body as he backs Miller into the fence, then comes over
the top with a right. Miller is getting off some hard right
straights but Phan keeps coming forward, slugging the taller man
with a right over the top and a left hook to the cheek seconds
later. Another left from Phan is answered by a Miller superman
punch in the closing seconds.
Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Miller
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Miller
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Miller
Round 3
Phan comes out aggressive in round three and a right hand-left hook
combo has Miller backing up. Phan smells blood and puts another
combo on Miller, who just ducks the head kick behind it. Another
right hand from Phan, then a left hook, and now Miller is looking
to shoot. Phan turns him away and attacks with a nasty left hand to
the body, then backs away from Miller’s tired swipes. Phan is
looking much fresher down the stretch, keeping busy with his combos
and avoiding most of Miller’s counters. After taking four or five
hard body blows, Miller uncorks a left hand. Miller is starting to
string together punches now, landing wide hooks on the smaller man,
but a flying knee attempt comes up short. Phan sticks his left in
Miller’s face, and Miller closes out the fight with kicks to the
body. Miller raises Phan’s hand at the bell, and Phan raises
Miller’s. This will be a close one.
Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Phan (29-28 Phan)
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Phan (29-28 Phan)
Mike Whitman scores the round 10-9 Phan (29-28 Phan)

Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Johnson
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Johnson
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Johnson
Round 2
It’s Johnson pressing the action through the first minute of round
two, keeping Swick on his back foot, though neither of the
welterweights is scoring with any major offense. Swick catches a
kick from Johnson and shoves him to the ground, landing a right
hand as they hit the canvas. The first punch puts Johnson out cold,
but Swick seals the deal with two more as ref Herb Dean is rushing
in to stop the action. Mike Swick returns with a sudden and brutal
knockout at 1:20 of the second round.
Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Varner
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Varner
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Varner
Round 2
Varner goes to some outside leg kicks to begin round two; he steps
in with a four-piece punching combo, but Lauzon sees it coming and
covers up. Lauzon puts up his guard again as Varner probes with
jabs and straight punches. Varner scores with a punch to the body,
a knee up the middle and a short elbow inside. He wraps Lauzon’s
waist and tries to trip him down, but Lauzon stays up. Lauzon
pushes Varner into the fence and Varner willingly falls to his back
with a guillotine locked up. Lauzon has good posture to pop his
head out, though, and he hops onto Varner’s back in one motion.
Varner stands and shakes off Lauzon, then goes back to slugging
while Lauzon covers up. Good one-two to the body from Varner, and
now Lauzon storms forward, hustling Varner to the floor and pinning
down his left arm. Lauzon gets off a few punches before Varner
flips over and gets to his knees, then stands back up with Lauzon
still shoving him into the cage. Lauzon drags Varner to the floor
again and takes back mount, this time sinking in his hooks to
control the back. Varner slips out the back door just before the
horn and drops a couple elbows.
Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Lauzon
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Lauzon
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Lauzon
Round 3
Lauzon and Varner hug to begin the final frame, but ref Luis Cobian
realizes soon after the start of the round that Varner’s mouthpiece
isn’t in. The corner fixes this and the lightweights get back to
work. Varner double-legs Lauzon to the floor one minute into the
round and works from half-guard for 20 seconds until Lauzon sweeps
his way free. Varner throws a combo and Lauzon covers up. Lauzon
comes forward and Varner backs him off with a right. Though tired,
Varner is still firing hard shots inside, punches and elbows,
though none are scoring very effectively with Lauzon covering.
Varner hits another takedown, but Lauzon flips him over the top
with underhooks and cinches up a triangle choke. Varner resists for
a moment while Lauzon elbows from the bottom. Lauzon tightens the
choke and Varner has nowhere to go. Joe Lauzon gets the submission
win at 2:44 of the third round in a real thriller.
Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Machida
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Machida
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Machida
Round 2
More of the same as the second frame begins, with Bader still
unable to close the distance on Machida, who keeps the wrestler at
range with speedy counterpunching and kicks. One attempt from Bader
to rush inside gives Machida the opportunity he needs: a short
right hand sends Bader toward the ground, and two follow-up punches
from Machida turn out the lights. Lyoto Machida scores the knockout
at 1:32 of the second round.
Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Rua
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Rua
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Rua
Round 2
Rua blasts Vera with some hard left hands to open the round, then a
right hand backs Vera into the cage. Rua is unloading, just
blasting Vera with hooks and knees in the clinch, but Vera is
hanging in there. Vera lands an elbow of his own, comes off the
cage and socks Rua with a left hook. A good right hook and a body
kick score for Vera, followed by a kick to the thigh. Vera looked
out of this fight moments ago, but now he’s putting hands on Shogun
in the pocket. A right hook from Shogun dazes Vera, though, and Rua
grabs a front headlock to throw knees, then drags Vera to the
floor. Vera is on his knees, bleeding from beneath his left eye as
Rua tries to take his back. A right hand behind the ear appears to
stagger Rua, but he quickly recovers. Vera gets a bodylock and
brings Rua to the ground at the base of the fence. Both men look
wiped and Vera is unable to mount or land any major strikes before
the horn.
Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Rua
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Rua
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Rua
Round 3
Shogun quickly closes the gap and puts Vera on the fence, where the
Brazilian throws knees to Vera’s thighs while the American throws
them up the middle. Both 205’ers look exhausted, but Rua is still
mustering some hard leg kicks. He puts Vera on the cage again and
brings him down to his knees, where Rua first thinks choke, then
stands and delivers some hard punches. Vera gets some space to
stand and kicks back, but Rua hits another takedown in the middle
of the Octagon. Rua nearly gets mount, but Vera keeps him in check
with a deep half-guard, so Shogun instead grinds with elbows on
top.
Tristen Critchfield scores the round 10-9 Rua
TJ De Santis scores the round 10-9 Rua
Chris Nelson scores the round 10-9 Rua
Round 4
Back to clinching and hand-fighting on the fence, with both men
throwing tired knees inside. Rua’s knees are scoring better, and
Vera is unable to do much damage when he grabs the Thai plum. Vera
cracks Rua with a pair of level elbows, but Rua gives him some
damage right back with an uppercut. Rua’s just grinding Vera into
the fence now as the crowd begins to boo. Left hook, right hook,
one-two from Shogun and Vera hits the deck, belly-down. Rua follows
him down and drops another pair of hard right hands on his
exhausted opponent, and that’s a wrap. Herb Dean steps in to wave
this one off, giving Mauricio Rua the TKO win at 4:09 of the fourth
round.
