UFC on FOX 15 results: Ronaldo Souza makes quick work of Chris Camozzi

NEWARK, N.J. –  On the off chance that you thought Ronaldo Souza’s first win over Chris Camozzi was a fluke, “Jacare” was happy to prove otherwise in the rematch.

Souza (22-3 MMA, 5-0 UFC) used an armbar finish to dispatch Camozzi (21-10 MMA, 6-7 UFC) even quicker than he did in their first meeting, forcing the verbal submission at 2:33 of Round 1.

The middleweight bout was the co-main event of today’s UFC on FOX 15 event at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. It aired on FOX following prelims on FOX and UFC Fight Pass.

Souza wasted little energy making his point in this one. After walking Camozzi down behind the strength of a couple stiff right hands, the Brazilian put his man down with a double-leg takedown, then walked along the fence as he passed Camozzi’s guard and transitioned to an armbar as Camozzi attempted to slip out from the bottom.

From there, Souza rolled his man over, broke his grips, and extended the arm to finish the submission. With his arms trapped, Camozzi could only submit verbally, which “Jacare” was quick to honor even before referee Dan Miragliotta could step in to stop it. The finish in the rematch comes 64 seconds faster than it did in their first meeting, which ended with Souza putting Camozzi to sleep with an arm triangle choke.

The win makes it five in a row in the UFC for Souza, who has not lost since he dropped his Strikeforce middleweight title via unanimous decision against Luke Rockhold in 2011. Camozzi has now lost his last five fights in the UFC, snapping a two-fight winning streak he built up outside the organization.
