Chris Weidman today added another deed to his list of do-gooder accomplishments outside the cage, according to his wife.
Marivi Weidman said the UFC middleweight champion saved the life of his 92-year-old neighbor, who needed medical attention after an accident.
“She fell onto a glass table and had pieces stuck in her head,” wrote Marivi Weidman on Instagram. “She was in her driveway bleeding out in the rain trying to call her daughter on the phone. Chris ran over and brought her inside, cleaned her up and called 911. #myhero”
Calls to Weidman’s management weren’t immediately returned, and a UFC official told MMAjunkie that information on what happened was still being gathered. But it’s no surprise that the fighter is being recognized for his character.
Weidman drew headlines in May for his work with Isaiah Bird, a 6-year-old boy born without legs who wrestled his way to a state championship in Weidman’s native New York. The UFC champ raised $14,000 for Bird and invited him along to his UFC 175 title fight against Lyoto Machida, which he won via decision.
Recently forced to delay his third attempted title defense opposite Vitor Belfort (24-10 MMA, 13-6 UFC), Weidman (12-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) is recovering from a hand injury and is expected to fight in February.
