UFC Fight Night San Antonio Gate and Attendance: 'A Tremendous Success' for the Organization | MMAWeekly.com

UFN 44 Swanson vs Stephens Fight Poster-redThe Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first event in San Antonio was declared a tremendous success by the fight promotion.  9,227 spectators filled the AT&T Center to witness the 11-bout fight card, garnering $728,358 in gate revenue.

“We sold out the lower bowl and in the last couple of weeks opened up the upper deck. So San Antonio was a tremendous success,” said UFC Senior Director of Public Relations Dave Sholler during the event’s post-fight press conference.  ”San Antonio is a big fight town, it always has been.”

Cub Swanson strengthened his argument for a featherweight title shot by soundly defeating Jeremy Stephens by unanimous decision in the card’s main event.  Stephens looked good early in the five-round featured attraction landing power punches.  He dropped Swanson with a right hand in the second frame, but Swanson turned the tide with his speed and kicks to the body.  He had Stephens hurt on a few occasions, but was unable to put him away.

All the main card fights went the distance.  The Ultimate Fighter season 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum remained undefeated by defeating Nico Musoke in the co-main event.  After clearly losing the opening round, Gastelum made adjustments and picked up the pace.  He outworked and out-landed Musoke in the final two rounds to extended his perfect record to 10-0.

Featherweight contender Ricardo Llamas rebounded from his loss to champion Jose Aldo by defeating Hacran Dias by unanimous decision.  Cezar Ferreira earned a unanimous decision win over Andrew Craig in middleweight action, while Clint Hester and Joe Ellenberger won split decisions in other main card action.
