The Ultimate Fighting Championship made its debut in San Antonio on Saturday night with UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Stephens.
After the fights, UFC officials handed out the customary $50,000 bonuses for Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night honors.
After Cub Swanson and Jeremy Stephens lived up to everyone’s expectations, putting on a toe-to-toe, five-round battle, they easily walked away with the Fight of the Night honors, each of them awarded a $50,000 bonus.
Although the bout was competitive throughout, it was Swanson that took control and landed more frequently and with a wider variety of strikes en route to a unanimous decision victory.
With the entire six-bout main card going to decision, the two Performance of the Night winners came from the preliminary bouts, which produced four first-round finishes out of five bouts.
Ray Borg submitted Shane Howell with a rear naked choke just two minutes and 17 seconds into their fight to earn a $50,000 bonus, but Carlos Diego Ferreira topped him.
Ferreira took a mere 38 seconds to secure a rear naked choke and force the tap of The Ultimate Fighter 16 winner Colton Smith.
