JARAGUA DO SUL – MMAjunkie was on scene and reporting live from today’s UFC Fight Night 36 fighter weigh-ins, where all but one competitor made weight on their first attempts.

The festivities took place at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The same venue hosts Saturday’s fight card.

In the main event, former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida (20-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) meets former Strikeforce champ Gegard Mousasi (34-3-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) in a bout that could have major middleweight title implications. UFC President Dana White has said Machida could earn a title shot with a win over Mousasi.

Mousasi, weighing in first in hostile territory in Machida’s home country, was 186 pounds. Machida, fighting at middleweight for just the second time after debuting in the weight class this past October, was 185 pounds on the button.

In the co-main event, Francis Carmont (22-7 MMA, 6-0 UFC) meets Ronaldo Souza (19-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in another important fight in the middleweight division. Carmont, who trains at Tristar Gym in Montreal alongside Georges St-Pierre, who will corner him for this fight, was 185 pounds. “Jacare,” who crawled onto the stage in his signature alligator style, was 185, as well.

And in a welterweight bout, Takenori Sato (17-8-7 MMA, 0-0 UFC) makes his UFC debut against the up-and-down Erick Silva (15-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC). Both fighters were 170 pounds for their bout in the middle of the main card.

Only featherweight Maximo Blanco (9-5-1 MMA, 1-2 UFC) missed weight for his fight against Felipe Arantes (15-6-1 MMA, 2-2-1 UFC). Blanco, fighting on the UFC Fight Pass prelims, came in at 147.9 pounds and was given one hour to cut to the featherweight max of 146. UFC officials confirmed to MMAjunkie that he returned and hit 145 pounds on his second try.
