Tyron Woodley left UFC 205 clutching the welterweight title he entered the night with but did it in a way he seemed to find unsatisfying.
The welterweight title bout was the co-main event of the UFC 205 event at Madison Square Garden in New York. It aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Woodley (16-3-1 MMA, 6-2-1 UFC) almost scored the finish in the fourth round of his fight with challenger Stephen Thompson (13-1-1 MMA, 8-1-1 UFC), blasting him with punches and locking in a deep guillotine choke. Thompson survived the hold, however, and found his own success with his unorthodox striking in the final round of the bout.
The back-and-forth action led to both fighters having their hands raised when the judges saw it a majority draw. One judge scored the fight 48-47 for Woodley, the other two saw it a 47-47 draw.
