UFC 181 medical suspensions: New champ Lawler given clean bill of health

While new UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler went 25 full minutes to down now-former champ Johny Hendricks at Saturday’s UFC 181 event, “Ruthless” escaped without a medical suspension.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission recently released a list of medical suspensions stemming from UFC 181, which took place at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Hendricks wasn’t quite as lucky, though his directive will only keep him out until Jan. 6 with no contact until Dec. 28 for precautionary reasons.

UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, who earned a second-round submission win over top contender Gilbert Melendez, received a potential six-month suspension due to concerns over a broken left hand. However, “Showtime” already took to Twitter to insist he won’t be out for an extended period.

The full list of UFC 181 medical suspensions include:

  • Anthony Pettis: Must have left hand X-rayed and cleared, otherwise suspended until June 6
  • Abel Trujillo: Must have fractured nose cleared by doctor, otherwise suspended until June 6; minimum suspension until Jan. 6 with no contact until Dec. 2
  • Francisco Rivera: Must have left-eye abrasion cleared by an ophthalmologist, otherwise suspended until June 6
  • Clay Collard: Must have left arm cleared by an orthopedic doctor, otherwise no contest until June 6; minimum suspension until Jan. 6 with no contact until Dec. 28
  • Eddie Gordon: Must have post-concussive clearance from neurologist; minimum suspension until March 7 with no contact until Feb. 5
  • Brendan Schaub: Suspended until Feb. 5 with no contact until Jan. 21 due to upper lip laceration
  • Anthony Hamilton: Suspended until Jan. 21 with no contact until Jan. 6 due to right forehead laceration
  • Tony Ferguson: Suspended until Jan. 21 with no contact until Jan. 6 due to right forehead laceration
  • Raquel Pennington: Suspended until Jan 21 with no contact until Jan. 6 due to forehead laceration
  • Johny Hendricks: Suspended until Jan. 6 with no contact until Dec. 28 due to a tough fight
  • Todd Duffee: Suspended until Jan. 6 with no contact until Dec. 28 due to forehead laceration
  • Matt Hobar: Suspended until Jan. 6 with no contact until Dec. 28 due to left eye hematoma
  • Sergio Pettis: Suspended until Jan. 6 with no contact until Dec. 28
  • Alex White: Suspended until Jan. 6 with no contact until Dec. 28 due to left upper eyebrow laceration
