LAS VEGAS – For three full rounds Kenny Robertson (14-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC) fed Ildemar Alcantara (20-7 MMA, 3-2 UFC) a steady diet of takedowns and ground-and-pound, mauling the Brazilian en route to a clear unanimous decision victory (30-26, 30-26, 30-26).
The welterweight bout was part of the preliminary card of today’s UFC 175 event at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. It aired on FOX Sports 1 following additional prelims on UFC Fight Pass and ahead of a main card on pay-per-view.
Very early on in the fight it became clear that Alcantara had little in the way of answers for Robertson’s ground game. He struggled to defend against the takedown attempts that came his way early and often, and once on his back he was unable to do much but lie there and eat one elbow after another.
The only respite for Alcantara came after two unintentional groin strikes for Robertson, neither of which resulted in any penalty more serious than a stern referee’s warning. Once those breaks were over, however, Robertson had no trouble going right back to work, putting Alcantara down and beating him up in a methodical, dominant effort.
For Robertson, the win makes it two in a row in the UFC. Alcantara has now lost two of his last three.
