UFC 162 live and official weigh-in results

anderson-silva-chris-weidman.jpgLAS VEGAS – MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) was on scene and reporting live from today’s official UFC 162 fighter weigh-ins, where all 22 fighters successfully made weight for Saturday’s card.

The festivities took place at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The nearby MGM Grand Garden Arena hosts Saturday’s card.

In the main event, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (33-4 MMA, 16-0 UFC) tries to extend his UFC record 16-fight win streak by going after his 11th title defense against top contender Chris Weidman (9-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC).

Weidman weighed in first as challenger and came in at 185 pounds. SIlva then took the elaborate stage and was a pound under the title-fight limit at 184. The two shook hands – but then got nose to nose and chin to chin before being separated by UFC President Dana White when things threatened to get a little bit too heated.

“He’s the man, but this is my time to shine,” Weidman said. “Tomorrow night, history is being made. Love it or hate it, I’m going to be on top.”

“All the fighters that fight in the UFC are the best,” Silva said. “This is the best event in the world. Chris has the chance for the belt tomorrow. I fight for the fans – that’s it.”

In the co-main event, former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (15-4-1 MMA, 9-4-1 UFC), fighting a three-round fight for the first time after seven straight title fights, meets Charles Oliveira (16-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC), a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt. Oliveira came in a pound under at 144 pounds; Edgar was 146.

UFC 162, the promotion’s annual Independence Day weekend event, has a main card that airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.
