MONTREAL – It may not have been as entertaining as the pre-fight media conference call, but Nick Diaz and Georges St-Pierre still had some verbal fireworks – and “wolf tickets” – ahead of UFC 158.
St-Pierre (23-2 MMA, 17-2 UFC) and Diaz (26-8 MMA, 7-5 UFC) meet for St-Pierre’s welterweight title in Saturday’s main event, which takes place at Bell Centre in the champ’s home city of Montreal.
At Thursday’s pre-event news conference at Bell Centre, Diaz went off on a few more tangents over his Wednesday decision to skip an open workout session for fans and the media, asked St-Pierre if he had ever had a gun pointed at his head and found a way to insinuate the champion was using steroids.
Through it all, St-Pierre remained mostly composed, but still had moments where he questioned where Diaz’s rants were coming from – and reminded him he’s not scared.
The news conference also was attended by UFC President Dana White, co-main event fighters Carlos Condit and Johny Hendricks and featured welterweights Jake Ellenberger and Nate Marquardt – though with all the hype around GSP-Diaz, you’d hardly know it.
