Rousimar Palhares was rolling along with six wins in seven fights, and everyone was talking about just how dangerous he was on the ground – especially if he grabbed hold of one of your legs.
Then he ran into Alan Belcher, who fended off his submission desires and picked up a first-round TKO at UFC on FOX 5 in May 2012. And Hector Lombard knocked him out in December in Australia.
When Palhares (14-5 MMA, 7-4 UFC) returns to action next month at UFC Fight Night 29, which takes place at Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil, he’ll be hoping to get back to his winning ways against Mike Pierce (17-5 MMA, 9-3 UFC) on the main card, which aires on FOX Sports 1.
To whet your appetite for what Palhares has the potential to bring to the table, check out the video of the last time he fought in his home country of Brazil. On that show, UFC 142, he took home “Submission of the Night” for a 63-second heel hook submission of Mike Massenzio.
