Source: Good Injured, Withdraws from Bellator 44 Bout

Sherdog.com was informed of Good’s injury on Friday by a source close to the fighter. Good (Pictured; file photo) and Hornbuckle were supposed to square off in a Season 5 welterweight tournament qualifier on May 14 at Caesars Atlantic City Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. It is currently unknown if the promotion is seeking a replacement for Good. Bellator 44 will be headlined by a non-title super fight pitting reigning middleweight king Hector Lombard against UFC veteran Falaniko Vitale. The show, which airs live on MTV2, will also feature Season 4’s lightweight tournament finale, as Patricky “Pitbull” Freire faces Michael Chandler.

Bellator’s first-ever welterweight champion, Good began his career a perfect 10-0, winning three straight bouts to claim Bellator’s inaugural tournament title in 2009. That win streak was snapped last year, however, as Good lost his title to smothering wrestler Ben Askren at Bellator 33. Good, 25, rebounded with a victory over Chris Lozano in the Season 4 tournament quarterfinal but was then defeated by Olympic judoka Rick Hawn by split decision in the semis last month.

Hornbuckle had a six-fight win streak of his own spoiled last year, losing in the Season 2 welterweight final to Askren. The 30-year-old battled back to earn a spot in the fourth-season draw by outpointing Brad Blackburn in August, but he was defeated in a razor-thin unanimous decision by Brent Weedman in the first round of the tournament in March.
