Sergio Pettis is off of the UFC Fight Night 96 fight card scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 1, in Portland, Ore.
Pettis (14-2) was scheduled to No. 9 ranked flyweight Louis Smolka (11-1) in Portland, but suffered a minor injury that has forced him off the card. The news came from his coach, Duke Roufus, in a post on Instagram on Thursday.
“Unfortunately #SergioPettis sustained a minor injury and will not be fighting @louissmolka50a7 at @ufc #ufc#ufcportland,” said Roufus’ post. “Respect to #LouisSmolka … Only a speed bump, heal up & ready for action!”
It’s a significant setback for Pettis, who is currently ranked No. 15 in the 125-pound division, and coming off of back-to-back victories over Chris Cariaso and Chris Kelades. A victory over the likes of Smolka could have seen him make a significant move toward the upper reaches of the division.

Smolka is riding a four-fight winning streak, his only loss being a split decision to Cariaso.
UFC officials had not commented on Smolka’s status for UFC Fight Night: Lineker vs. Dodson, as of the time of publication.
