LAS VEGAS – Lightweight Saul Rogers is no longer a UFC fighter after a visa issue scrapped his fight with Artem Lobov at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale.
UFC officials confirmed to MMAjunkie that Rogers (10-1) had been cut after UFC President Dana White indicated the Brazilian’s career with the promotion was over.
“He lied on his application, stuff that you have to fill out for the athletic commission,” White said. “It’s not good.”
White did not go into further detail about Rogers’ visa application, and the Brazilian could not be reached for immediate comment.
However, Rogers released a statement on his official Twitter account taking responsibility for the last-minute issue.
“This was not done with any malicious or devious intent, but nonetheless, it was my mistake and I accept the consequences,” he wrote. “I can assure you that this is not going to stop me from achieving my dreams and I’ll use this experience to come back stronger than ever.”
Rogers, a member of Conor McGregor’s team on the reality show, defeated three opponents to earn a spot in a lightweight tournament, including a majority decision over Ryan Hall, who was called to replace him when he was scratched from the card.
Hall made the most of his opportunity, outgrappling Lobov over three rounds to win the fight and the honor of “The Ultimate Fighter” – as well as a UFC contract.
A resident of Farnworth, Bolton, England, Rogers had won four straight on the international circuit prior to his stint on “TUF 22.”
