Jones, 25, will also reportedly need to complete a victim impact panel in the next 90 days and will have his driving license suspended for six months. Additionally, the champ must install ignition interlock devices in all of his vehicles, according to the report.
Today marked the third time Jones appeared in Binghamton City Court for sentencing, as his previous two hearings were postponed, reportedly in order for Jones to complete a required alcohol abuse and dependency evaluation.
Jones was arrested May 19 on suspicion of DWI after driving his Bentley into a utility pole in Binghamton, N.Y. The fighter pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DWI charge on May 29, striking a deal with the Broome County District Attorney’s office that called for Jones to complete the aforementioned evaluation and for his license to be suspended. An additional two-point infraction for an improper turn was dismissed as a result of the plea bargain.
Widely regarded as one of MMA’s top talents, Jones was impressive in 2011, submitting “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 8 winner Ryan Bader before running through Mauricio Rua to capture the UFC light heavyweight title. “Bones” defended his belt twice to close out last year, choking out former champions Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida before outpointing former training partner Rashad Evans at UFC 145 in April.
Jones will next compete against onetime Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson, defending the title against the 41-year-old veteran on Sept. 1 at UFC 151.
