‘Rampage’ Jackson Reveals Plans for Double Knee Surgery Prior to Clash with ‘Shogun’

Quinton Jackson announced Thursday that he will undergo surgery on both knees in the near future.

The UFC recently announced that Jackson will take on former Pride Fighting Championships rival Mauricio Rua at a to-be-announced event in 2012. While no official word has been given on a fight date, Jackson stated that his knees must take priority before the fight can occur.

“To keep it real, the ‘Shogun’ fight will have to wait,” wrote Jackson on his official Twitter account. “I just found out that I have to get surgery on both knees, but I heal fast. Don’t trip.”

“Rampage” went on to reveal how he hurt each of his knees, asserting that his left knee was injured during his September clash with reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Meanwhile, Jackson stated that his right knee was accidentally injured by sparring partner Tyson Jeffries prior to Jackson’s February meeting with Ryan Bader at UFC 144.

A former UFC light heavyweight champion, Jackson joined the promotion in 2007 and captured the title from Chuck Liddell in just his second Octagon appearance. After relinquishing his belt to Forrest Griffin the following year, Jackson won four of five fights before stumbling in his last two outings against Jones and Bader.
