Q&A with Carson Beebe on facing Marlon Moraes at WSOF 6

WSOF 6

MMA DIRT’s Darren Barcomb had the pleasure of chatting with Carson Beebe as he gears up for his World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 6 matchup against Marlon Moraes on October 26th at the Bank United Center in Coral Gables, Florida. The 25 year old “Little Juggernaut” Beebe impressed in his WSOF 3 decision win over a very game Joe Murphy and now has his sights set on Moraes, who is widely considered one of the top 10 bantamweights worldwide.

With a record of 14-2 and hoping to make waves in the WSOF bantamweight division, Beebe spoke to MMADIRT.com about facing Moraes, his motivations, and recaps his big victory over Murphy.

Barcomb: You beat Joe Murphy at WSOF 3. I was ringside there for it in Las Vegas and thought it was one of the better fights of the night. It was a great performance. Can you grade yourself; tell me how you thought the fight went and how you performed?

Beebe: It was a good fight, an awesome fight. I really pushed myself in that fight. Joe Murphy is a really tough opponent with slick Jiu Jitsu and he brought the best out of me I think. I had to push myself to come out on top for that one. I had good situations from the bottom so I had to maintain really good position from the top. I fought out of a lot of tough submissions and I thought I dominated the first two rounds. In the third round I got a little bit winded and got caught in two submission attempts that were pretty tight. On one arm bar I think he popped my elbow out a little bit but I fought through that one, and he also had a pretty nice choke that I wasn’t sure if I was going to tap or go to sleep. I ended up fighting out of it though and I learned a lot about myself there. I had some hart to fight out of things and to finish strong. If I were to grade myself, I’d probably give myself around a B just because I would have liked my cardio to be a little better in that fight.

Barcomb: With that win, you’re now fighting at WSOF 6 against Marlon Moraes, who’s being touted as a top 10 fighter in the division. This is a huge opportunity for you. What do you know about him, expect to see from him, and without giving away too much, what’s your game plan?

Beebe: Marlon’s a great fighter. I’ve watched his fights. He’s got phenomenal stand-up. I believe he’s a kickboxing world champion and a lot of people are calling him one of the top 10 bantamweights in the world, and I think that’s deservingly so. That’s awesome for me though, because the more people hype him up and the higher they rank him, the more I get excited for this fight. It’s a great opportunity for me to go out there. I’ve though for a while that I should be up there with the top fighters in the world and now this is my chance to prove it. So, I get to go out there and fight one of the best guys and show the world what I got. As far a game plan, I ‘m going to fight the way I always do; with a lot of heart and intensity. I’ll get in his face, and I’m going to fight him. I’m not going to come out there and try to outpoint him or try to dance around. I’m going to try to get in his face and bring the fight to him. So we’ll see if he has the heart and the determination to push through.

Barcomb: You’re going to be on the televised portion of the NBC Sports Network broadcast. How do you feel about headlining on TV and your WSOF experience in general going into your second fight with them?

Beebe: World Series is phenomenal. In my opinion it is the greatest organization on the planet and I wouldn’t want to be fighting any other place. Our President (Ray Sefo) got in the cage and fought (at WSOF 4). There’s no other President in any other organization who’s a true fighter. He’s one of the best kick boxers in history. He’s a warrior and understands what it’s like to be a fighter. It’s a fighter’s promotion; their all about the fighters, taking care of the fighters and putting on great shows. As a fighter, where else would you ever want to be than in an organization like this? I’m super stoked and super blessed with the opportunity. I have great management in the team over at Sucker Punch Entertainment and thank Brain Butler for hooking me up with this opportunity. Being on NBC Sports is even cooler. During my whole MMA career my goal has been to use the MMA platform to try to expose my faith. I’m a strong Christian and I rely on my faith and God when I get into the cage to give me the strength to perform as I should and make it through those tough battles even when I shouldn’t. The fact that I’m on NBC Sports elevates that platform even more for me so I’m very excited and blessed to have that opportunity. Now it’s up to me to decide if I’m going to take advantage of that opportunity. One of my good buddies says opportunities multiply as they are seized, so we’re going to have to go out there and seize it. I love to get in the cage and test myself. You’re scared every time you get out there but you do it anyways. That’s what real fighting is all about.

Barcomb: You go through a lot… the training, travel, injuries, and other fighter setbacks. What continues to motivate you through that whole process?

Beebe: It’s two fold. Number one, every time I step into the cage, I get fear and anxiety. You can’t step into the cage with another guy who’s a trained warrior, who’s good at beating people up, without anxiety. But you have to man up and step into that cage and give it all you got. It’s a huge thrill, and huge self-respect comes out of that. Secondly, like I said before, it’s a huge platform to have an impact on kids, or anyone else out there that if you just go out there and have faith and have courage, you can go out there and do anything.

Barcomb: Any final thoughts?

Beebe: Just thanks to everybody at World Series, my management team, my fight team, and all the Glory to God.
