UFC officials announced plans to hold a UFC Fight Night event at O2 World Berlin, which will host the Octagon for the first time. No fights have been announced for the show, although it is expected to serve as the second event to take place on May 31, as the UFC has already announced a Fight Night show in Brazil on that same day.
The Las Vegas-based promotion first set down in Germany in 2009, when UFC 99 took place at Lanxess Arena in Cologne. That event saw Rich Franklin outpoint Wanderlei Silva in a 195-pound catchweight main event, while future heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez bested Cheick Kongo in the co-headliner.
The following year, UFC 122 was held in Oberhausen, Germany, headlined by Yushin Okami’s unanimous decision victory over Nate Marquardt. Both UFC 99 and UFC 122 aired via tape delay on Spike TV. Broadcast plans for the UFC’s May 31 return to Germany have not yet been announced.
