Mike Pierce is out of his The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale bout with Demian Maia due to a broken hand.
Pierce confirmed the news late Monday night. It was initially reported by MMAJunkie.com.
Pierce vs. Maia had been targeted for the May 31 event in Sao Paulo, Brazil. It was a hit to the TUF Brazil 3 Finale fight card, which underwent another big shift on Monday.
The reality series coaches, Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen, were initially slated to headline the card, but on Monday, UFC president Dana White told MMAWeekly.com content partner Yahoo! Sports that the coaches fight was being moved to July 5. Silva vs. Sonnen will now serve as the UFC 175 co-main event in support of a planned headliner between middleweight champ Chris Weidman and challenger Lyoto Machida.
Junior dos Santos vs. Stipe Miocic, which was originally the UFC 173 co-main event on May 24, was moved into the TUF Brazil 3 Finale headlining slot.
The TUF Brazil 3 Finale will be heavy on Brazilian fighters and likely feature several cast members on the card.
No timetable has been given for Pierce’s return, nor has the promotion commented on its plans for Maia.
