Legacy FC 63 results: Brutal Gerald Harris slam lays out Aaron Cobb in first round

Gerald Harris and Aaron Cobb were supposed to face off at welterweight in the Legacy FC 63 main event. Instead, after a strange series of events in the days leading up to the fight, the men stepped into the cage for a heavyweight bout.

The event took place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla. It aired on AXS TV.

Cobb notified the promotion he would not be able to make welterweight in the days before the fight, after weighing in over 220 pounds, he was told to check in at 205 the morning of the fight to make the bout a light heavyweight affair. Instead, Cobb was the same weight on fight day. Harris chugged water to boost his own weight to 208 pounds and the fight went ahead at heavyweight.

Harris came out strong, pushing Cobb into the cage and quickly proved weight was no issue, picking the bigger man up off the canvas. Cobb wrapped his legs around Harris’ waist, but it wasn’t a good defense to what was coming.

Harris lept into the air and drove Cobb into the canvas, knocking him out with a massive slam at the 0:43 mark of Round 1.

The bout was Harris’ first since an August 2013 win over Jorge Santiago at WSOF 4.

Williams busts up Houston

In the welterweight co-main event, Bilal Williams (8-3) showcased slick footwork to befuddle Trey Houston (12-4) as he peppered him with heavy punches. Houston was repeatedly staggered and stunned by the crisp shots from Williams.

As the seconds ticked away, Houston feebly chased after Williams, getting clipped over and over. Finally, a right hand from Williams dropped Houston to the canvas. The referee jumped in to call a halt to the bout at the 1:56 mark of Round 1 as Houston’s legs betrayed him as he attempted to rise from the mat.

Williams fought five times in 2016, compiling a 4-1 record on the year.

The bantamweight bout between Levi Mowles (5-2) and Jimmy Flick (8-3) was moving along at a crisp pace in Round 1, but Mowles managed to close out the opening frame in mount dropping big shots while Flick covered up, apparently on the verge of leaving the fight.

After the rough end to the opening round, Flick tried to score a takedown so he could be the one on top dishing out punishment. Unfortunately for him, Mowles stuffed the takedown and used dominant position to continue punishing Flick. The strikes kept coming until the fight was called off at the 1:27 mark of Round 2.

Hernandez smashes Lanier in first

The first punch from Jesse Hernandez (8-2) dropped Josh Lanier (8-9) to the mat. From there, the super heavyweight bout was basically over.

Hernandez dropped bombs with elbows and punches until the referee jumped in and called a halt to the bout at the 0:53 mark of Round 1.

Standing 6’4?, Terry Britton (3-0) towered over late-notice opponent Diego Pichilingue (3-3) in their 140-pound catchweight bout but things quickly evened out on the ground. Pichilingue scored an early takedown but Britton defended capably off his back before throwing his legs up for a triangle choke. His long limbs may have kept him from locking the hold up, but he did manage to sweep to top position.

However, Pichilingue quickly locked in a submission attempt of his own, catching Britton with an armbar. It looked like Britton couldn’t escape the hold because he attempted to slam his way out to no avail. Finally, Britton dropped a clearly illegal knee on the face of Pichilingue, causing him to abandon the hold and cover his face as follow-up strikes came in. The referee did not call the foul and the bout came to an end by TKO at the 3:18 mark of Round 1.
