Legacy FC 24 was a night all about undefeated prospects, and when the dust was settled, the most notable of those prospects walked out of the event with unblemished resumes.
Carlos Diego Ferreira (8-0) outpointed Chris Feist (8-1) in the main event of Friday’s Legacy FC event in Allen, Texas, to extend his undefeated record and remind the world why he is a name to keep an eye on in the lightweight division.
Ferreira was simply the superior fighter in all areas as he proved to be the better striker and grappler inside the Allen Event Center.
Even though it was only the Brazilian’s second fight with the promotion, he looked right at home in the headlining role and made the most his opportunity to compete in a televised main event on AXS TV.
Henry Cejudo gains experience; shows improvement
Flyweight prospect and 2008 wrestling Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo (5-0) kept his undefeated record intact with a unanimous decision victory over Ryan Hollis (4-2) in the co-main event of the evening.
After finishing his first four opponents by knockout or submission, Cejudo went the distance for the first time in his career and showed some new ripples in his game in the process.
The 26-year-old spent all of the first round and part of the second on the feet showcasing his evolving striking game and looked more than capable in doing so.
The rest of the fight played out as expected, with Cejudo dominating position on the ground while Hollis unsuccessfully threw up submission attempts.
Even though Cejudo was critical of his performance after the fact, he gained 15 minutes of value experience in the cage en route to another dominant victory and will continue to have the attention of the MMA community going forward.
Holly Holm dominates again, remains undefeated
Holly Holm (5-0) proved once again why she is one of the most feared female fighters coming up in the sport with a blowout performance against an overmatch Nikki Knudsen (2-2).
Holm methodically picked Knudsen apart with crisp strikes before finally earning the fifth knockout win of her MMA career early in the second round. To Knudsen’s credit, she took a significant amount of damage in the fight, but a kick to the body was the beginning of the end and she could take no more.
Holm’s decorated professional boxing background gave her an edge coming into the sport, and with each fight she continues to impress, improve and show the world her potential to be a player in a major MMA organization down the line.
Benoit blasts Fuller in one
Fan-favorite Ryan Benoit (7-2) threw caution to the wind from the second his fight with Cody Fuller (10-7) began, pouring on a relentless onslaught of offensive until he eventually scored a knockout with seconds remaining in the first round.
Benoit is known for his heavy hands and aggressive fighting style, but he tore right through Fuller in what may have been the most impressive showing of his nine-fight career.
Byrd narrowly hands Jasper first career loss
Charles Byrd (5-3) rose to the occasion to give the previously undefeated Mike Jasper (7-1) his first career loss by split decision.
“Kid Dynamite” had proven to be somewhat inconsistent throughout his short career, but he managed to put it all together on fight night as his striking, grappling and cardio were all on point.
Byrd was aggressive from the opening bell, and although he was never able to put the fight away, his efforts to finish the fight are likely what gave him the edge he needed on the judge’s scorecards.
Jackson grapples his way to a victory
Damon Jackson (7-0) opened the Legacy FC 24 main card with a one-sided submission victory over Javier Obregon (5-7) in a grappling-heavy affair.
Minus a second round scare that saw Obregon connect with a clean head kick, “The Leech” stayed true to his nickname by refusing to give his opponent any room to breath and eventually sinking in the arm-triangle choke for the finish.
Jackson improved to 7-0 as a professional with the victory and has finished all of his opponents by knockout or submission. ?
