When it comes to Kelvin Gastelum’s difficulty in making the welterweight division’s 171-pound limit, he’s getting no sympathy from his upcoming opponent.
Matt Brown (20-13 MMA, 13-7 UFC) meets Gastelum (11-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC) in Nov. 21’s FOX Sports 1-televised UFC Fight Night 78 headliner, which takes place at Monterrey Arena in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Brown, who’s ranked No. 6 in the NOS Energy Drink MMA welterweight rankings, isn’t happy that Gastelum, who’s an honorable mention at middleweight, is getting some help in his return to 170 pounds. According to a UFC.com with Gastelum, UFC President Dana White told “The Ultimate Fighter 17” winner the company will pay for a nutritionist to work was Gastelum as he moves back to his old weight class, where he’s twice failed to make weight while under the UFC banner.
During a Twitter exchange, Brown questioned the “conflict of interest” of the “handout” his opponent is receiving.
Gastelum responded, which set off an exchange between the two fighters, as well as Brown’s wife.
