Jake Ellenberger Out Six to Eight Weeks with Hamstring Injury

Jake Ellenberger UFC on Fox 8 Post_9306Jake Ellenberger had to withdraw from the main event of the UFC’s planned Singapore debut in January due to injury.

Ellenberger on Friday revealed to FoxSports.com that the injury that forced him out of the fight with former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine is an injured hamstring that will keep him sidelined for six to eight weeks. There appears to be no long term damage that would necessitate surgery, but it is severe enough that he wouldn’t have an appropriate training camp for the five-round main event bout.

“Yeah it’s been a rough week,” Ellenberger told Fox Sports. “It was a hamstring injury, just one of those things.

“I’ve never pulled out of a fight before, usually I’m the one taking fights on short notice, but this was one of those times where I just had to do it.”

UFC officials quickly moved to insert Hyun Gyu Lim in his stead. Lim will face off with Saffiedine in the headlining bout.

UFC Fight Night 34 is slated for Jan. 4 in Singapore. It will air on Jan. 3 in the United States due to the time difference.
