Henry Cejudo withdraws from Legacy FC 34, is UFC deal next?

Olympic gold medalist and current MMA flyweight hopeful Henry Cejudo (6-0) will not headline next month’s Legacy FC 34 event, as was originally expected.

Cejudo withdrew from the planned main event for undisclosed reasons, though multiple sources indicated to MMAjunkie that the wrestling standout is expected to soon finalize a UFC deal. However, UFC officials denied anything was in place at this time.

“While there have been discussions, no deal has been reached at this time,” read a statement from a UFC official.

At Legacy FC 34, Cejudo was trying to make flyweight successfully for the first time after a previous pair of failed attempts. Cejudo wrestled in the Olympics at 121 pounds but hasn’t had luck making 125 in MMA. He was slated to fight Damacio Page for Legacy FC’s flyweight title in June, but he withdrew from the fight. That followed a January appearance in which Cejudo could only trim down to 125 pounds.

Meanwhile, Legacy FC officials confirmed MMAFighting’s previous report that undefeated Brazilian Pedro Souza (12-0) has been brought in to replace Cejudo and now meets Brian Hall (6-2) at Legacy FC 34, which takes place Aug. 29 at Horseshoe Tunica Hotel & Casino in Tunica, Miss. The main card airs live on AXS TV.
