Having Retooled Her Camp, Megan Anderson Knows She’ll Eventually Be Invicta FC Champ

Having Retooled Her Camp, Megan Anderson Knows She’ll Eventually Be Invicta FC Champ

For Australian native Megan Anderson, finally being able to pick up a win for Invicta FC this January was not only important for her standing in the company, but it represented the accomplishment of a goal she’s had since she got into fighting.

Coming off a loss to Cindy Dandois last September, Anderson was able to pick up a third round TKO of Amber Leibrock at Invicta FC 15 and prove herself as someone to watch in the featherweight division.

“I had four months in between the one in September that I lost and the one in January. I changed my teams and my training up, and it was really good to see everything that I’d been working on come together and get a pretty convincing win,” Anderson told MMAWeekly.com.

“In Australia, our goal in MMA is to fight in America; to fight, train and win over here. It’s something that not a lot of people get to do, so I feel pretty privileged to be able to do that.”

After the loss to Dandois, Anderson knew she’d have to start training full time in America if she was going to remain at this level of MMA.

“It kind of needed to happen to move forward in my career,” Anderson said. “After my first fight last year, I had planned on staying two weeks to train, and just in the first week I knew this is where I needed to be.

“The training is at another level. I have some of the best training partners in the world that push me every day, so I needed to do this to move forward.”

Megan AndersonAnderson (5-2) will look to pick up her second win for Invicta on Saturday night in Costa Mesa, Calif., when she takes on fellow prospect Amanda Bell (3-3) in a feature 145-pound bout.

“There’s going to be a significant height and reach advantage (for me), which I think is going to play a big part in the fight,” said Anderson. “We’ve watched footage of (Bell) and seen what she’s done in other fights, and there’s nothing I’m worried about.

“We’re just going in there to not play to her game plan, but just implement mine and do what we plan to do. We’re not really worried about what she’s bringing to the table, but we’re going to adapt to what she’s doing in the cage.”

With Cris “Cyborg” Justino’s focus currently on the UFC, the 145-pound division in Invicta is wide open, and it could very well be the time for Anderson to lay claim to a title shot. But for now, her focus is developing her game so that when she gets to challenge for the title, she’ll be ready for it.

“I’m still relatively new in this sport,” Anderson said. “It’s coming up on three years, so I just want to keep winning, keep improving and keep becoming the most complete fighter I can be.

“My goal is to be the Invicta featherweight champion, and it will happen eventually. It doesn’t have to happen this year. It might not even happen next year. I’m just happy to fight and keep winning and improving my skills, and when it’s meant to happen, it will happen.”
