Alexander Gustafsson (15-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) has reportedly suffered a facial cut and will likely be out of Saturday's UFC on FUEL TV 9 headliner with Gegard Mousasi (33-3-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC). That's what some MMA websites reported without having confirmed the news with neither the UFC president or the fighter himself. I don’t speak about panic they created throw-out MMA community. Yes a cut is a serious stuff, but it’s a doctor conclusion that matters most in such cases. A five round fight is also matters if you going to fight even with an easy injury. But finally it's the Swedish MMA Federation (SMMAF) who will decide whether Gustaffson can fight or not, despite his trauma. So we break down what all parts are saying:
SMMAF president George Sallfeldt said that “It is very difficult to see that this will be medically approved on Friday”
According to Gustafsson himself he still wants to fight on Saturday.
UFC boss Dana White said to Ariel Helwani the following: “The Swedish Mixed Martial Arts Federation has not said he can’t fight, and he wants to fight”
Mousasi has been instructed to fly to Sweden to prepare for fight. “The Dreamcatcher” said: “So far as I know, the fight is still on."
Conclusion:
Every parts wants this fight happen, even the doctors did not say he can’t fight. Just hope that Gustafsson is approved on Friday and that his cut won't bother him when the fight is on.
Our understanding at combatbear.com is that no one has pulled this bout from the fight card and that Gustafsson and Moussasi still are likely to fight on this Saturday at UFC on Fuel TV 9 in Sweden, Stockholm.
