Former UFC fighter Tim Hague died Sunday as a result of a knockout loss from a Friday night boxing match.

Dan Grummett of CTV confirmed the news while also passing along a statement from the family:

"It is with incredible sadness, sorrow and heartbreak to report that Tim has passed away today. He was surrounded by family, listening to his favourite songs. We will miss him so greatly. We ask for privacy during this difficult time."

Hague was 34 years old.

Adam Braidwood earned a knockout win over Hague in Alberta, Canada, which resulted in Hague suffering a serious brain injury, according to James Lynch of Sportsnet. He was transported to an Edmonton hospital and remained there throughout the weekend, but he was unable to recover.

Hague had competed in both mixed martial arts and boxing matches throughout his career, but he had been focusing on boxing since the middle of 2016. He suffered three straight losses across nine months.

Prior to this shift, Hague spent 10 years in MMA with a 21-13 overall record. He competed in five UFC matches from 2009-11.
