Brandon Vera Calls Chuck Liddell A Step Down

Sherdog.com is reporting that UFC light heavyweight Brandon “The Truth” Vera did not mince words when fielding questions at a recent UFC Fight Club Q&A session held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Vera had this to say when a fan asked him if Chuck Liddell presented a step down in competition for the Norfolk, VA native: “Yes. I’m not lying. I would much rather fight somebody I’m supposed to lose to.”

When the Lloyd Irvin trained fighter began fighting in the UFC in 2005 he drew attention to himself by calling out the then fearsome Chuck Liddell. Since then Liddell has fallen from grace, losing four of his last five fights.

Vera also spoke about where he wants to be in the stacked 205lbs division saying, “I’m asking for the number three spot. I don’t give a damn who’s at number three. I can’t ask for number one, and I can’t ask for number two. That’s Machida and ‘Shogun.’ You’ve got to climb the ladder.”

“The Truth” is scheduled to take on up and comer Jon “Bones” Jones on the UFC’s first event on the Versus Channel, and he is not taking him lightly.

“We’re going to see how hard his bones are,” said Vera. “I don’t want to look past Jones; I can’t. He’s a real dangerous fighter.”

Brandon Vera most recently competed against Randy Couture at UFC 105 and dropped a razor thin split decision to the MMA legend.
