Just a week before the event, the UFC 172 pay-per-view has taken a hit to the main card.
Bobby Green (22-5 MMA, 3-0 UFC) has suffered an injury and been forced out of his lightweight fight against Jim Miller (23-4 MMA, 12-3 UFC). A source with knowledge of the injury on Saturday confirmed the news to MMAjunkie. Twitter user FrontRowBrian tweeted word of the injury on Friday.
A source with knowledge of the matchup told MMAjunkie on Saturday that the UFC is seeking a replacement to fight Miller on just one week’s notice. Both sources spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about Green’s injury.
UFC 172 takes place next Saturday at Baltimore Arena in Maryland. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass. Miller vs. Green was set for the second fight on the main card.
Green was to be trying for his eighth straight victory. Since a 4-1 run in Strikeforce, the former KOTC champ has picked up a trio of wins in the UFC. They’ve come over increasingly tougher competition, including Jacob Volkmann (submission), James Krause (TKO) and Healy (decision).
Miller is going after his third straight win, though sandwiched between victories over Joe Lauzon and Fabricio Camoes is a no-contest. (Miller originally suffered a submission loss to Pat Healy, who later had the win overturned due to a failed drug test for marijuana.) Miller, who’s won three “Submission of the Night” and three “Fight of the Night” bonuses during his lengthy six-year UFC run, is still looking for his elusive first UFC title shot.
With the change, the UFC 172 lineup now includes:
MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view, 10 p.m. ET)
PRELIMINARY CARD (FOX Sports 1, 8 p.m. ET)
PRELIMINARY CARD (UFC Fight Pass, 7 p.m. ET)
