Bellator unveils pink gloves for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

bellator-pink-gloves.jpgOctober is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and organizations across the country are going pink to mark the campaign.

Bellator MMA has been in on the act before with pink ribbons on the cage canvas. But this year, the promotion is teaming up with Everlast and stepping it up a notch.

Bellator and Everlast tonight will unveil “pink-inspired” gloves on fighters at Bellator 102, which takes place at California’s Visalia Convention Center. The main card airs on Spike TV at 9 p.m. ET following prelims on Spike.com at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Each fight on the card will feature the new gloves, the promotion said in a release sent to MMAjunkie.com. Normally, fighters wear gloves with a black and red color scheme.

Throughout October, $1 from every sale of Everlast’s CardioBlast heavy bag will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Everlast announced. In addition, Everlast donates 25 cents from all purchases of its pink hand wraps and $1 from each sale of its pink pro training gloves throughout the year. Pink Everlast equipment can be purchased at the company’s official web store and sporting goods stores.

“We are honored to have our fighters wear Everlast’s new gloves inside our cage this Friday live on Spike,” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney stated. “This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the importance of cancer research, and we will continue to support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in (its) efforts.”

“The most important fights in the world are those that take place outside of the ring or cage,” Matt Cowan, Everlast’s EVP for marketing, sales and product stated. “Through our long-standing partnership with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, it is our committed goal to honor and support those fighters and survivors around the world.”

Among the fighters who will be donning the pink gloves at tonight’s event are heavyweights Cheick Kongo and Lavar Johnson, who are on opposite sides of the heavyweight tournament semifinals bracket. Both UFC veterans are making their Bellator debuts gunning for a tournament title and a shot at the belt.
