After canceled fight, UFC bantamweight Anthony Birchak arrives home to robbery

anthony-birchak.jpgUFC bantamweight Anthony Birchak (11-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) went home without a fight at UFC 177, and his home is now empty following an apparent robbery.

Birchak, whose opponent Joe Soto (15-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) was promoted last-minute to a title fight with champ T.J. Dillashaw, tweeted on Sunday, “Wow so if this weekend couldn’t get more fu^%ed up we just got home to find we got robbed!!! When it rains it pours everything’s gone!”

Birchak’s PR rep told MMAjunkie the fighter may have an idea of who robbed him but declined further comment. His timeline today was filled with tweets about the items stolen at his house, which included children’s toys, TVs, jewelry, and food.

“These guys were truly sinister and dastardly they stole my FAN!….My fan! And some Crispin Apple Cider so I know it’s some punk kids,” he wrote.

The take also included an item dear to Birchak: a Maximum Fighting Championship ring he created to commemorate his title in the Canada-based promotion.

Birchak vacated the belt and later signed with the UFC, where he was scheduled to fight Soto on the event’s FOX Sports 1-televised preliminary card before Soto was given his “Rocky” opportunity.

The UFC paid Birchak his show and win money despite his canceled fight. PR reps for the promotion didn’t immediately return a request for comment on the fighter’s situation.

Currently on a five-fight win streak, Birchak has lost but once in his professional career and most recently fought this past October, when he submitted Tito Jones at an MFC event.

Despite his recent run of luck, the veteran fighter said he is keeping things in perspective.

“I’m seriously not that upset my family is 1000% safe & God clearly had 2open my eyes 2some things this weekend,” he wrote. “H is for humble. Understood.”
