Dustin Poirier may have come out on the winning end of his UFC on FOX 29 main event showdown with Justin Gaethje, but he couldn’t avoid a potentially lengthy medical suspension.
It took Poirier three tough back-and-forth rounds before he was able to rock Gaethje and finish him and it cost him to the tune of a 180-day suspension. Poirier could return sooner if he gets and MRI of his injured knee and gains medical clearance from a doctor.
Gaethje got off much easier, receiving a 45-day suspension because of the TKO stoppage loss.
Several other fighters on the fight card received 180-day suspensions including Cortney Casey, Tim Boetsch, Ricky Rainey, John Moraga, and Lauren Mueller.
All fighters not listed below received a seven-day mandatory rest period suspension.
The UFC on FOX 29 medical suspensions were released by the Arizona Department of Gaming, which was charged with regulating the event.
